On January 9, 2012, Headmaster Jim McDaniel announced Dr. Mark Jackson as the new Assistant Headmaster (seated left).
Dr. Jackson will oversee operations, assessment and curriculum revision, and partner with Mr. McDaniel and Mr. David J. Tuttle, Associate Headmaster (standing) to direct the most rigorous, creative and influential strategic plan ever seen by the LHS community.

Collectively this team brings 78 years of experience in education, giving Linden Hill the fire power to ignite new and exciting changes as we plan for another successful 50 years and position Linden Hill as the premier school for middle school boys with learning differences.

In addition, Stephanie Daniels joins LHS April 9, 2012 as Director of Admissions. Stephanie recently worked at the Glenholme School for 12 years in a variety of professional roles, most recently as Associate Director of Admissions. Stephanie's background in working with special needs students and their families, her creative and expressive talents, and her great enthusiasm is a perfect match to the LHS community - Welcome Stephanie!

The Linden Hill School offers an exciting new curriculum as well. This curriculum balances individualized guided instruction with collaborative project based learning (PBL) strategies. The combination fosters an authentic learning environment in which active middle school boys are challenged to research, create, communicate, present, reflect, and self assess while remediating language, math, and/or social pragmatics deficiencies.

The program of study is built around five core learning domains:

  1. Language Arts

  2. Humanities

  3. Performing Arts

  4. Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)

  5. Health and Athletics



The academic day is structured to provide individualized reading and math instruction while also providing the boys the time to work in project teams on activities that take them outside the traditional classroom and place them instead in authentic learning environments. On any given day a Linden Hill boy may work on the production of a musical, complete a science project in a nearby forest, participate in a soccer game, survey a field, and participate in a video conference with an anthropologist working on a real excavation site.

In addition the Linden Hill School program of study also provides a social pragmatics curriculum that targets the development of skills that enable students to effectively communicate across a variety of domains with diverse groups of partners within diverse circumstances.

Linden Hill School is a national leader in the education of middle school age boys with language-based learning differences. Since 1961, Linden Hill has succeeded teaching boys of high potential who are experiencing academic failure due to attention issues; typically due to a language based learning disability. Other challenges such as ADD/HD, Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities and Executive Function deficits may also contribute to this inability to attend.
