Update On Our
Insurance Billing Campaign

For over a year now, Legacy has been licensed by the State of Utah as a residential treatment provider of mental health and substance abuse treatment for young adult male clients. Based on this license, and our ability to obtain verifications of benefits very quickly and preauthorize treatment, we have a successful track record of billing insurance companies on behalf of our client families during the course of treatment, as opposed to retroactively attempting to get some reimbursement at the conclusion of treatment for families who have privately paid the full amount up front.

The noteworthy point here is that our ability to verify and preauthorize benefits on the front end of treatment, and our willingness to work with families who do not have the means to pay the full price of treatment up front, allows us to enroll young men into Legacy who do not have the resources to pay the full amount in advance and must at least partially rely on insurance benefits to get into treatment.

Those of us who founded Legacy have long been motivated by a desire to make wilderness therapy more financially accessible to more families. Toward this end, we pursued the necessary licensure and acquired the expertise to proactively pursue insurance payments on behalf of the families whose sons we serve.

It has been extremely heartening for the entire Legacy team to be able to provide a powerful and effective wilderness therapy experience to young men who, without our willingness to work with insurance on the front end, and our willingness to take the risk that the insurance proceeds will at least partially offset the private-pay shortfall, would not have access to wilderness therapy. Even though the demanding pre-authorization and utilization review processes have greatly increased the work load of our entire team, we collectively believe that the results we are seeing in getting more young men into wilderness therapy are well worth the extra effort.
