Legacy Outdoor Adventures is starting a group for older adolescent boys and will be accepting students beginning July 11. Since its inception last year, Legacy has been treating young adult males who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues and have been struggling to transition to responsible adulthood. The Legacy team is ready to apply the Legacy program model, which has proven to be so effective with young adults, and begin treating older teenage boys who fit the Legacy profile.

The Legacy Outdoor Adventures brand is based on a high degree of individualized attention and personalized treatment, including a high staff-to-client ratio: a therapist, a substance abuse counselor and a staff mentor assigned to work individually with every client. Our Field Guides are exceptionally mature and experienced. Legacy integrates engaging adventure therapy with the power of wilderness therapy by carrying out a weekly adventure within the context of the wilderness expedition. At the core of Legacy's ideology is the "Legacy Way of Being," which is grounded in having a heart at peace, and embraces recovery, honorable manhood, and self-awareness. The Legacy experience helps each young man identify and develop his strengths, guides each on his own hero's journey, and cultivates in each a responsible individual agency.

Appropriate candidates for the Legacy teen group are boys who are developmentally compatible with a 17-year old peer group, who are dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues, and who are facing challenges in moving into healthy, responsible adulthood. Legacy's philosophical approach to treatment is based on change by invitation, guidance and latitude in making responsible choices, and leading and influencing rather than forcing. Therefore, applicants must express at least a minimal degree of willingness to enroll in Legacy and begin working the program.
