June 16, 2011

Excitement fills the air on Kildonan's campus. It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that Kildonan announces the immediate undertaking of a comprehensive Campus Master Plan. On Thursday, June 2, 2011, Headmaster Benjamin Powers announced to faculty that the school will be working with Perkins Eastman, an architecture firm based out of New York City, to develop the plan. The Campus Master Plan will help bring to fruition the critical mission and vision of Kildonan: to empower students with dyslexia.

Kildonan has a world-renowned multi-sensory academic program, which is rooted firmly with its core one-to-one Orton-Gillingham tutorials. Recently, the school has also been at the forefront of incorporating Assistive Technology and is currently the only school with a fully developed AT program with a comprehensive curriculum. The Campus Master Plan will evaluate all of the constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, parents and trustees. The ultimate goal of the Campus Master Plan is to provide a facility that will best support our community's needs.

Perkins Eastman has worked with a broad range of schools in various countries around the world to develop in-depth campus master plans. As they note, "We view every school project as an opportunity to understand the present and envision the future, each time challenging ourselves to create relevant and inspiring learning environments that propel students to identify their potential to grow."

As Headmaster Powers said in the announcement, "This is an incredibly exciting time for Kildonan, and the Campus Master Plan will provide us with the facilities to allow us to continue to lead in the field of educating students with dyslexia." The Campus Master Plan process is being made possible through the generous support of Christina Lang Assael, who recognizes both the need for an all-inclusive plan and the significant potential of Kildonan's campus. We're excited to keep you posted on the progress; plans will be "unveiled" in September!

The Kildonan School specializes in empowering students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences. They offer daily, one-to-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring for both day and boarding students in a college-prep setting for students grades 7-12, as well as Elementary Day School for students grades 2 through 6.
