The John Dewey Academy announced today the appointment of Kenneth Steiner, Ph.D., M.S.W. to the position of Head of School. Dr. Steiner has worked at John Dewey for the past 21 years in multiple capacities, most recently as Dean of School.
Dr. Steiner succeeds Dr. Thomas Bratter, JDA's founder and prior Head of School. Dr. Bratter, a pioneer and leader in the field of residential treatment for bright, self-destructive adolescents, will be taking a leave of absence for health reasons. He anticipates returning to JDA at the beginning of April 2011 as Emeritus Head of School.
Dr. Steiner, long recognized as Dr. Bratter's eventual successor, has functioned as Acting Head over the past several months. Assisting Dr. Steiner in his expanded responsibilities is Andrea Esperat, M.Ed., the Dean of Students at JDA, and Lisa Sinsheimer, M.D., Admissions Coordinator/Parent Liaison and Clinical Consultant.
