Jefferson House is Gatehouse Academy's latest residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, that provides treatment to dually diagnosed young adults.

Established in the Arizona desert of Wickenburg, this new program gives hope to those who are suffering from substance abuse while also dealing with mental illness, medical instability or an unclear diagnosis. "At Gatehouse, we started seeing an increasing need for care specialized to help people who are challenged with more than just drug or alcohol addiction," explains Mike Baldassare, Marketing at Gatehouse Academy. "That's why we developed the Jefferson House program - to create a place where people who need additional help can get the services necessary for their successful recovery."

For dually diagnosed young adults, finding appropriate treatment can be difficult. They require a program that will address both their struggle with substance abuse and the unique challenges of mental illness or psychological instability. Traditional drug and alcohol rehab facilities may refuse treatment for individuals with psychological disorders, just as it is common for mental illness treatment programs to refuse services to those engaged in substance abuse. "After being rejected from other programs or repeatedly failing in other programs, a young person begins to lose hope," says Gatehouse Academy CEO, Edward Lacy. "Jefferson House gives us a chance to show them that changing their life isn't impossible, we help them believe it's possible."

Each resident receives individual clinical and medical care from licensed professionals. Rehab specialists help change the resident's lifestyle using key activities, such as: daily meditation, group therapy, didactic education, step study, exercise, and healthy life skills. "Each specific activity focuses on responsible recovery," says Leah Briik, Director of Operations at Gatehouse Academy. "When the resident moves to the next level of care within the Gatehouse Academy structure, they will have a foundation built using the 12 Steps as a guide for communication, relationships, work ethic, self care and spiritual growth." Upon successfully building skills to cope with the unique challenges of their diagnosis, Jefferson House residents transition to Gatehouse Academy where they continue the rehabilitation process and prepare to re-enter society.
