Island View Residential Treatment Center for struggling teens has announced the appointment of David Melear, M.Ed., to Executive Director, effective January 3, 2011.
Melear joins Island View with 16 years of management experience in a behavioral health setting including residential treatment, psychiatric hospitals, psychiatric residential treatment, and a specialized boarding school. Prior to joining Island View, he served as Executive Director of Wellspring Academy of California, a boarding school dedicated to providing treatment for adolescents and young adults who are overweight or obese, and a program of CRC Health Group of which Island View is also a part.
"We are pleased to welcome David to Island View and the Aspen Education Group family of programs," said Phil Herschman, President of the Healthy Living Division of CRC Health Group that oversees all Aspen and Wellspring programs. "He has a great deal of experience in behavioral health so the transition from Wellspring to Island View will be seamless. We are eager to begin this next chapter for the Island View program and are confident that David will be a great asset in helping our families and teens."
Melear has a Master of Arts in Education, Exceptional Child Education and Learning and Behavioral Disorders. Prior to Wellspring, he spent three years as an Executive-in-Training for a Fortune 500 hospital management company where he oversaw operations for their acute psychiatric and residential treatment centers. In addition, he served as Program Director and Community Liaison, among other positions, for 14 years at a licensed, acute psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents in Kentucky.
"I am both excited and privileged to be joining a program that has a long-standing reputation of excellence for helping adolescents and their families," said Melear. "Being a part of a team that is dedicated to helping people discover their potential is amazing and I look forward to the quality that is Island View."
