Intermountain, a residential program in Montana for children 4-13, will present The Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Study featuring Robert Anda, MD, MS and Carol Redding, MA at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kalispell on Friday, March 26, 2010.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is possibly the most important public health study ever done, and the largest study of its kind, to examine the health and social effects of adverse childhood experiences over the lifespan. It demonstrated that childhood adversity appears to determine the likelihood of the ten most common causes of adult death in the United States.

The ACE Study findings are consistent with recent discoveries about the neurobiology of stress and the effect of stress on the developing central nervous system. But unlike other studies, the ACE Study assessed a wide array of traumatic childhood experiences (called "ACEs") as well as many health and social problems from adolescence to late adulthood. It clearly established that the number of ACEs has a strong, graded relationship to many common medical and public health problems.

This conference will feature a presentation by Robert Anda, MD, MS Senior Research Fellow, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Co-Principal Investigator for the ACE Study. Carol Redding, CEO of Health Presentations, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing information and resources related to human health and well-being, will present an intimate, compelling case study of how the ACE Study findings have played out in her family life and medical history.
