On January 10th Insight Psychological Centers and its affiliate Inspire Health, two premier multi-disciplinary outpatient behavioral health treatment centers in the Chicago area, opened a new program for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18. The AP (Adolescent Program) specializes in treating mood & anxiety disorders, eating disorders and weight management difficulties that commonly start earlier in life.

"There was a great need for an outpatient program in and around Chicago that could provide intensive treatment for adolescents, which is why we created The AP," says program co-founder Susan McClanahan, Ph.D. Though the National Institute of Mental Health found that nearly a fourth of all US children will experience difficulty with a mental disorder (1), programs like The AP are rare, even nationally.

The AP provides individual, group and family programming in an atmosphere that is safe, confidential and professional. Individual treatment ensures close monitoring, mentoring and the development of relationships to foster healing. The AP's group programming includes: support groups, psychotherapy process groups, psycho educational groups, cognitive & behavioral therapy groups, and also offers experiential therapies like: art therapy, yoga, meditation, movement therapy and more. Working with other teens who "get it" helps adolescents learn from one another and understand they are not alone. "The community dynamic that The AP offers really helps create the most effective treatment environment," says The AP Program Coordinator, Kristen Fenton, LCSW.

Parents also benefit from The AP by meeting both individually with therapists, and in small groups with other parents to learn how to best support lasting change. Adolescents who have experienced depression, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, lack of focus, stress, bullying, self-injury, trauma, grief, eating disorders or weight related difficulties find support, compassion and recovery through The AP's programming.

Insight Psychological Centers provides treatment for eating disorders, weight management and general psychological issues. Insight is also affiliated with Inspire Health, a modern medical practice that combines mind and medicine for weight management for people who need to lose weight.
