The Inner Odyssey Summer Expedition is an 8-day backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Rising up from the Sacramento River Valley, the Sierras boast thirteen peaks over 14,000 foot, along with glaciers, pine forests, alpine lakes, and hot springs. Expedition participants will travel to a home base outside of Lake Tahoe to learn basic back country first aid wilderness skills and to acclimatize. The group will then embark on a five-day backpacking trek through spectacular scenery and several alpine lakes. Activities include fishing, swimming, high altitude Frisbee, and orienteering. After a final 24-hour solo experience, the group will have an opportunity to soak in some local hot springs before returning to the Bay Area on the eighth day.
Treks run July 28-August 4, 2012. Tuition is $1,400 and includes meals, equipment and transportation.
Inner Odysseys Expeditions and Mentoring (IO) is a program of Coyote Coast. IO is an organization dedicated to mentoring and expeditions that combine experiential learning, physical and mental challenges, and healthy rites of passage. Developed by wilderness guides and therapists, IO believes that when young people are taken out of the classroom and exposed to nature, physical challenge, and experiential learning, the possibility of living with passion and purpose becomes real.
