Dear Colleagues,

A quick note to let you know that we are running our GAP YEAR SEMESTER program in Paris starting at the end of January. The offering runs for fifteen weeks. Another session is offered in the Fall, 2013.

The Gap Year Semester in Paris offers two fifteen-week sessions each academic year. The next program begins in January, 2013. This offering is for college-aged students and is rooted in substantial community service work, intensive language training, a cross-cultural core seminar, and a personal project. Your time abroad will feature the possibility of a home stay or accommodations in a French foyer as well as substantive travel and cultural experiences. This engagement offers an unusual opportunity to live in Paris and enjoy the benefits of time away while preparing for the rigors and responsibilities of higher education and beyond.

The program is rooted in David Denman's wonderful Sojourns Abroad offering in Siena, but has several different emphases:

  • Living in Paris - what more can one say?

  • A homestay or foyer housing option

  • Community Service projects four days a week

  • French language instruction every weekday

  • A core seminar, the FORUM, which meets twice a week and exposes participants to local experts on contemporary issues, esp

  • immigration and its effects on French society

  • A formal Architecture of Paris course which meets once a week

  • Guided excursions two weekends a month

  • Paris

We are looking for 6-10 enrollments for this January.

Also, Service Learning in Paris and in Barcelona will run July 4-28th, 2013.

Thank you for any referrals you can make.
John

Service Learning in Paris program seeks students who are energetic and want to work, both intellectually and physically, to be involved, and to get to know people of other cultures.
