Amid news that more than one million students from the class of 2012 were expected not to graduate high school, Huntington Learning Center has reaffirmed its commitment to help struggling high schools improve their academic performance. Huntington is an approved supplemental education services provider under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, and has provided free tutoring to thousands of students across the country through NCLB's federally funded supplemental education services program.

According to Education Week's 2012 edition of "Diplomas Count," a national study on high school graduation statistics in U.S. public schools, the nation's graduation rate rose to 73 percent in 2009, the highest figure since the 1970s. Yet, researchers projected that 1.1 million students from the 2012 graduating class would not receive diplomas.

"Huntington is very proud of the work we do with underperforming schools and school districts," said Ray Huntington, Co-founder and Chairman of Huntington Learning Centers. "As our nation works to solve the dropout problem, we know that the work we do is so important in ensuring these students have the skills to succeed in school and graduate."

Huntington Learning Center's School Services division works with school districts that are required to increase their academic performance as dictated by the No Child Left Behind Act. Huntington centers also partner with non-profit organizations to reach this same goal for their local students. Huntington Learning Center tutors in academic skills, such as reading, phonics, math and study skills; and in advanced math and science subjects ranging from algebra through calculus and general science through physics. They also prepare students for state and standardized entrance exams, such as high school entrance exams and the SAT and ACT and provide free school tutoring to eligible schools.
