Hundred Acre Homestead is licensed as a small, residential therapeutic community, just north of Montpelier, VT. Situated among sugar maples, an apple orchard and overlooking the Worcester Mountain Range, this program works with young men and women (18+) who are struggling with mental illness that may include bi-polar, schizophrenia, OCD, depression, Asperger's, emotional stress and traumatic brain injury.
Working to restore mental and emotional balance, this program uses six integrated components with participants: mind, body, spirit, interdependence, independence and celebration.
Through daily chores on the farm taking care of the animals and the garden, play and participation in the community, the program focuses on communication skills, whole organic foods-grown in their own garden, yoga and relaxation techniques, community living, learning to take responsibility for oneself and the joys of happiness. Season specific activities include gardening and animal husbandry, hiking, biking, gathering firewood, snowshoeing, skiing and home-style activities such as knitting, art and board games that give residents a chance to socialize with their peers.
Hundred Acre Homestead is also a member of the American Residential Treatment Association.
