Horse Sense of the Carolinas conducted their first annual Business Building Intensive, September 18-20, 2008, in Marshall, NC at The Marshall Studio Building. This seminar provided critical business basics to practitioners operating Equine Assisted Practice programs around the nation. The Business Building Intensive provided in-depth information for creating, operating, managing, and marketing a successful and profitable equine-assisted business.
Twenty-eight equine professionals from around the country traveled to gain the practical nuts-and-bolts emphasis of the Business Building Intensive. They came from as far away as Oregon and as close as Winston-Salem, NC. Participants took part in foundational discussions and work sessions around financial management, marketing, funding, and program management.
Two additional Asheville businesses presented at the Business Building Intensive. Michael Sowinski, CPA, of CFO Consultants, LLC had sessions on finance, budgeting, and money management. Writer and marketing strategist Brenda Dammann, of Creative, Inc., presented on strategic planning, marketing, and message development.
Additional guest speakers included Debbie Anderson, co-founder and executive director of the Indiana-based Strides to Success program. Anderson, an equine-business expert of over 35 years, presented information on her Equine Assisted Learning program for schools.
Next year's Business Building Intensive is already scheduled for the week of September 21, 2009. More details will be coming.
