(The following is a brief letter from Barry Blevins, Executive Director of The High Frontier concerning the wildfires that swept through Fort Davis, TX this past week-end, and the evacuation of staff and students from The High Frontier)

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Families,

As many of you may have heard, wildfires have been occurring in West Texas. Sadly these fires have affected the Fort Davis area and on Saturday evening we were forced to evacuate our staff and students from The High Frontier. Fortunately, due to some hard work of firefighters, none of our important buildings were damaged. While we lost one small structure, we are very grateful that all of our staff, students, animals, and main buildings are intact.

Our students were evacuated to a local church in Alpine, Texas, which graciously opened up its doors for us. The support of the town has been amazing and the camaraderie of our students has shined. Although we were fortunate, many people in Fort Davis were not; upwards of 50 structures have reportedly been lost in this fire, as well as many livestock. Some of our employees' families lost their homes, and efforts are being made to restore water and power to the area.

At the present time all families have been notified and students are staying in touch. It is our hope to have power and water restored to The High Frontier within the next 24 - 36 hours, and have the students back on campus Tuesday, and back to their regular academic and therapeutic routine Wednesday. Although telephone service for land lines is out and cell service is somewhat compromised, we will do everything in our power to keep people informed.

Thank you for all the support. Please keep those that suffered losses in your thoughts.
