Greenbrier Academy is proud to announce the transition of a current employee, Sharon Findlay, into a new position: Director of Communications. Formerly the Director of Human Resources, Sharon is now focusing on quality communication at the school. "I am thrilled to work on such an important aspect of our organization and also to have the opportunity to work with our parents, students, consultants and staff. We want all of our stakeholders, both internally and externally, to know about the excellent work we do."
Prior to coming to Greenbrier Academy, Sharon worked in education and management and served a year with Ameri*Corps. She is very active in our community and serves on many fundraising committees for local non-profit organizations.
We’d also like to introduce two of our newest additions to the academic staff at Greenbrier.
Wesley Thompson, Humanities Teacher, is a native Texan who graduated from Baylor University with double majors in Psychology and Religion. While at Baylor he provided supplemental lectures for an undergraduate psychology course in coordination with the professor. Wesley has a passion for serving others. He helped lead a construction project on the Mississippi coastline after hurricane Katrina and spent two months in Ghana, West Africa refurbishing the electricity of an orphanage for the mentally and physically handicapped. Wes has let his passion for serving others influence his career path as well. Before working at Greenbrier Academy he worked for Child Protective Services in Texas as an investigative social worker. In his free time Wes enjoys playing his djembe drum and steel pan, scuba diving, sculpting, and fly-fishing.
Ron McAllister, our new science teacher, enjoys taking advantage of Greenbrier's spacious campus. His students use its natural resources as opportunities to get out of the classroom and do "in the field" observations and experiments. He is a master at creating experiential learning activities, and likes to see students involved in real-life problem solving situations. Mr. McAllister has diverse interests and applies them through Greenbrier Academy's various clubs, particularly theatre. His interest in theatre comes through involvement in historical interpretation and re-enactment. He also enjoys indoor and outdoor cultural activities such as canoeing, kayaking, spelunking, finger weaving, and reading.
