Greenbrier Academy is a college preparatory, therapeutic boarding school for girls. One of the most popular classes at Greenbrier is Studio Art. The girls are able to explore a variety of artistic media that vary from acrylics and watercolors to ceramics, papier-mâché or just about anything a creative artist can imagine. Our student artists are able to enter their favorite pieces in local art shows and competitions.
Tiffany Radford, Art teacher for Greenbrier says, "Students often find creative ways to express externally what they are working on internally. Our students' artwork demonstrates their unique individual style and interpretation. One of our students wrote "Art in my life is just something I do to relax my mind after hard thinking or frustration. It's something I use to self soothe."
This year our Art program has chosen to participate in the Creative Youths, 18th annual juried art show for Greenbrier County students in grades 4-12. It is sponsored by Carnegie Hall. The exhibit will be on display from March 1 through April 1, 2011 in the Old Stone Room at Carnegie Hall in downtown Lewisburg, WVA.
Representatives from the schools were invited to submit student artwork that was created in the current academic year and limited to ten entries from their school. Entries will be judged by a panel selected by Carnegie Hall and winners will be named by grade range based on the categories of mixed media, drawing, painting, and photography.
Greenbrier Academy is an all-girls' therapeutic boarding school that integrates personal discovery, character development, and academic excellence. Specifically designed to assist young women in their academic development and self-confidence, Greenbrier Academy embodies the vision of a healthy campus for leaders of tomorrow.
