Since its founding in 1960, The Glenholme School has provided behavioral and special learning needs to students, ages 10-18 years old. This co-ed, therapeutic boarding school works with adolescents diagnosed with ADHD, PDD, OCD, Asperger's, Tourette's and a variety of learning differences and disabilities. The Glenholme School is under the umbrella of the Devereux programs.
Originally founded by Helena Devereux, Devereux. Glenholme is one of over 20 Devereux Centers in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Admissions Director for the Glenholme School is Kathi Fitzherbert and Sharon Murphy is the Education Director. Accreditations and Licensures are through the CT Association of Independent Schools and Colleges, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, licensed by the CT Department of Children and Families and the Maryland State Department of Education. Professional affiliations include TABS, CAIS an NEASC. All boarding school faculty hold college degrees and are trained in the Positive Behavior Support model, therefore the students receive treatment at all times.
Through a highly structured program and quantum learning, students learn through hands on techniques. With an emphasis on character education and development, organizational and creative problem solving, equine therapy, career exploration and a multimedia curriculum, students work towards being motivated and independent learners. Students also have the choice to participate in support programs which may include academic assistance in math or Spanish, supervised study skills or college explorations. Student chosen activities are offered in addition to traditional academics. These include student government, art, music, drama, fitness and sports, cooking, technology and games and hobbies. Field trips to museums, concerts and the theater are available throughout the school year.
