Family and friends gathered at Bryant Park Grill in New York City on October 22, 2014 for The Glenholme School's fourth annual scholarship fundraiser and to honor the everlasting commitment of a dedicated Glenholme Board member.
Stephanie Scott is a successful and highly respected teacher, actor, singer, director and writer and, most importantly, mother to James, a Glenholme alumni. When "Jamie" came to Glenholme, Stephanie committed herself to supporting the school in every possible way. She produced the first Parent Handbook written by and for parents, established a Welcoming Committee for parents and students, and joined the Development Board in order to participate in the creation of many important new programs, resources and facilities at Glenholme.
Stephanie strongly believed that a performing arts center would benefit the students tremendously, so she contributed her expertise, as well as funds, to build the school's Center for the Arts, a professional level theater. She also wanted to support the expansion of the athletics program, so she helped the school install a tennis court and more recently she donated the funds and worked tirelessly to establish a beautiful new soccer facility, named Walter's Field, in honor of her father, Walter J. Schloss. Always thinking of new and creative ways to further motivate and inspire Glenholme students, Stephanie suggested we have an annual dance and celebration incorporating the Big Band music her father loved to commemorate the opening of Walter's Field.
Earlier this year she proposed the development of our new gymnasium; an effort which is currently underway. While Jamie finished at Glenholme in 2009, Stephanie continues her generosity and support of the school each and every day. With assistance from Stephanie, the other Development Board members, friends and family, Glenholme's fourth annual evening at Bryant Park Grill yielded $175,000 for the scholarship fund- recognizing, once again, the lasting impact the Glenholme program can have on special needs students and their families.
Through the generosity and dedication of the champions of Glenholme, like Stephanie Scott, the school continues its extraordinary mission of helping young people with special needs become competent socially, emotionally, and academically.
The Glenholme School, a center of the Devereux organization, is a therapeutic boarding school for young people with high functioning autism spectrum disorders including Asperger's; ADHD, PDD, OCD, Tourette's, depression, anxiety, and various learning differences.
