Gerard Academy is for boys and girls, ages 6-19 who struggle with severe emotional and behavioral problems, learning disabilities, family issues, adoption, ADD and Autism. In addition, adolescents with aggression, anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts, self-harm or self-mutilation are candidates for this RTC.
Executive Director at Gerard Academy is Brent Henry, who had been with Nexus for over 34 years. Loren Nerison is Gerard's Admissions Coordinator, Pamela Retterah is the Clinical Director and Sandi Bucher is the Clinical Supervisor. Gerard Academy is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services and academics are offered through New Dominion School, which is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. Licensure is through the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Minnesota Department of Health and services are Medicaid eligible.
Through cognitive behavioral therapy, students participate in individual, group and family therapies. The focus on family inclusion is supported by the Family Partnership Initiative and for those families unable to visit regularly, Nexus provides free videoconferencing capability and equipment to stay in touch with their child.
