Consistent with our commitment to continuously improve what we do, Gateway Academy has enhanced and expanded the transition services and opportunities available to our students. On June 1, 2015, we opened the doors to our Gateway House!

The Gateway House is a residential home in a family neighborhood, located around the corner from our main campus. In this smaller setting, eight of our boys who have progressed to their final treatment phase (called "Gateway Phase"), will have the chance to try out fledgling skills in an atmosphere of greater flexibility and freedom.

During the Gateway Phase, emphasis shifts from clinical intensity to community-based in vivo (real life) interventions and increased independent choices. This phase is also a time for exposure to stressors and distractions that are inevitably part of life (like balancing homework and technology). Now, students on the Gateway Phase of our program will move into the Gateway House to complete their time with us and engage in their individualized transition process. Through their participation in transition services at the Gateway House, both students and their families can visualize and solidify what to expect upon graduation. By the time a young man leaves Gateway Academy, he and his family will have had the chance ot practice over and over again the skills and self-advocacy he will rely on every day at home or in his next step.

The Gateway House is not a stand-alone transition program, nor is it intended to extend the length of stay at Gateway Academy. Instead, it is an intentional expansion and improvement of our program designed to incorporate hte latest research about sustaining treatment gains and ensuring transition success for ALL of our students.

Gateway Academy is a residential treatment center for underachieving boys ages 14 – 17.
