Michael "Terry" McCarthy, counselor and Living Skills teacher at The Family Foundation School, died October 9, 2010. He was 62 years old. McCarthy, who joined FFS in 1993, also conducted Parent Seminars, Family Group counseling, served as a Family Leader and wrote a regular column for the student newspaper: The Family Times, on the principles of 12-Step living.
A gifted counselor, popular teacher and mentor, Terry and his wife Lindy served as Family Leaders of FFS Family Eight from 2002 until 2009. He later resumed Family Counselor duties for Family Two.
A surrogate father to hundreds of Family School students over the years, he is survived by Lindy, his wife of 41 years, and their eight grown children: Michael, William, Peggy, Patrick, Kevin, Brian, Nadine and Joseph.
Family Foundation School is a private therapeutic boarding school with a separate high school and middle school, for struggling teens and adolescents ages 12-18. FFS offers an integrated program of academics, daily therapeutic counseling and character education based on the principles of 12 step living. Accreditation and licensures are through The Joint Commission, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the New York Board of Regents and is SEVIS approved. FFS is a member of NATSAP.
