Expedition Therapy announces the addition of three new Program Specialty Areas to its Immersive Expedition Experience: Archaeology, Culinary Arts, and Life Skills Intensive.
"As we develop our Expedition Curriculum, we are finding that young adults respond powerfully to the opportunity to learn a variety of skills that are applicable to both their daily lives and their interaction with the world around them," stated Beth J. Fogel, Primary Therapist. "These three new areas of interest are an excellent complement to our existing therapeutic expedition courses."
Archaeology, focusing on the rich cultural history of southern Utah, will be led by a Utah-based Field Archeologist who has performed field surveys throughout Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada, as well as historical artifact identification research.
Culinary Arts, taught by a graduate of a prestigious culinary institute, will concentrate on essential cooking techniques, combined with creative uses of Expedition-appropriate ingredients to craft a wide variety of nutritional and great-tasting foods to sustain the minds and bodies of Expedition Therapy students.
Life Skills Intensive emphasizes practical aspects designed to provide students
with the ability to effectively deal with the challenges that arrive In daily life. Topics Include coping skills, time management and organizational skills, and creative problem solving.
Expedition Therapy is a goal-oriented, solution-focused approach to therapy combined with a curriculum that promotes self-discovery, fosters each individual's strengths, and develops a sense of community. Unlike most traditional approaches, Expedition Therapy Instructors are highly skilled guides who have extensive therapeutic training and experience in wilderness.
"The objective of our Therapeutic Expedition Mentality is to guide and support each individual so that he or she can function more completely, not just in the present moment but in the future as well, commented Ms. Fogel. "These newly added areas of learning provide even more hands-on, highly effective experiential learning opportunities."
The Expedition Therapy program provides participants individualized therapy in a framework of backcountry skills and leadership courses, with an emphasis on the importance of teamwork. Participants in our program develop as leaders and learn to facilitate group processes, in addition to learning how to overcome challenges while mountaineering, canyoneering, rock climbing or backpacking.
