Equine Journeys is a short-term adolescent residential treatment program. They serve adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 with behavioral problems and substance abuse issues. The length of the program is 120 days with optional extensions of 30 day increments. The program is a small, family-oriented and operated treatment program with a maximum capacity of 20 residents. A typical child may have low self esteem, some substance abuse issues, truancy, family relation problems, truancy, withdrawn and too difficult to manage at home.

The programs treatment model is experiential and equine-based. The residents live in a program house facility on Main Street in the small town of Loa, UT where the program is located. Less than a half mile away is where the residents will participate in horsemanship training; training horses; raising beef, hogs, and chickens; raising feed for stock; pasture and crop management, irrigation, and various other related and required chores necessary to keep a program operational. The residents will be riding, training, and/or caring for horses every day of their participation in the program.

Equine Journeys was started in August of 2011 by Kevin Knutson - Administrative Director, Brandon Burr, LCSW, ECP-P - Clinical and Program Director and Chad Lyman, ECP-P, Director of Ranch Operations. They all worked together at Aspen Ranch for many years as well as had experience developing programs. After the closing of Aspen Ranch they decided to open their own program rather than relocate.

Equine Journeys is licensed by Utah Department of Human Services. Master level therapists provide treatment services such as weekly individual, group, family treatment sessions, and addiction treatment. Each therapist is certified as an equine co-facilitated psychotherapist and will work in conjunction with an assigned horse to conduct a multitude of equine related therapies outside of the regular treatment service regimen. High school education is provided at Equine Journeys through an accredited online high school program, called Park City Independent, which is supervised by a certified teacher that assists with the online coursework, tutors, and provides supervision and oversight for the academic experience.
