There is positive energy and new things happening in the Dragonfly community.
Matt Schoch and Alyssa Szepi, two outstanding individuals that used to work with us as mentors, have returned to Klamath Falls and Dragonfly to spearhead two new projects.
Alyssa will manage A Leap of Taste, a gourmet coffee shop and deli, that we recently purchased. This will provide our students with job skills training and creative outlets in terms of marketing, open mic nights, etc.
Matt is heading the Farm Project. Students have already built a greenhouse behind the men's house and garden boxes for around the women's house. The ownership, energy and enthusiasm that students put into this project is impressive. Matt and students will plant about an acre of vegetables and flowers south of town at the Chinook Aerie, a healing retreat owned by Dr. Melnick and her husband, Robert. The veggies and flowers will be used to feed the Dragonfly community, sell to A Leap of Taste and will also be brought to our local Farmers' Market during the summer and fall months.
Judith Cockerham, a professional chef, started working with Dragonfly mid March. She will run the cooking classes and will also work with students to prepare food for the deli case at A Leap of Taste. She trained at Le Cordon Bleu in London and brings energy and delight in preparing and enjoying food.
