Discovery Academy is pleased to announce Ken Newell, Ph.D. has joined our clinical team as our girl's clinical specialist focusing his expertise with our female students. Dr. Newell received his M.S. in marriage and family therapy at the University of Kentucky. After earning his Ph.D., also in marriage and family therapy, Ken focused on abuse, addictions and helping families become engaged in the recovery process. "We look forward to the contributions Ken will undoubtedly make to our clinical team and our program overall," said Discovery Academy's clinical director, Matt Hendry.
Dr. Newell began his decade-long work with teens and their families as a wilderness therapist with Aspen Achievement Academy and then with Second Nature Wilderness Programs in Utah and Georgia. He also worked at Homeward Bound, a program which helps teens and families with the transition home after residential treatment. He then began working at Discovery Ranch, a residential treatment center that helps teens work towards self-discovery and fostering self-reliance. "I have always admired Discovery Academy's clinical program and am thrilled to be working with such a great program and team. I look forward to working in a therapeutic boarding school environment with its' unique ability to successfully transition teens towards home," said Dr. Newell.
