As summer ends, I would like to bring you up to date on what we have been up to here at The Deck House School.
This summer saw our first Summer Trimester Program from late July through the end of August. Academics, Co-curricular activities and Community Service were all part of the mix. Our unique location allowed us to include activities such as kayaking, fishing and sailing on a 30' sloop.
Last year The Deck House School created an IEP for an out-of-state student. We also developed and used a personal learning plan (PLP) in a similar format for a non-special education student. In 2010-2011 every student will have either an IEP or PLP to identify goals and track progress more effectively.
Fundraising for our Financial Aid Program continues and we have already made grants for the 2010-2011 school year. The Deck House School remains committed to helping families afford the structured, individualized, college-preparatory education that we offer.
If during the remainder of the summer or this fall, you have the opportunity to travel to New England, we invite you to visit our campus. Mid-Coast Maine is one of the most beautiful areas in the nation, particularly during this time of year. I would be pleased to help arrange your trip and show you around the school. We have space available in our fall trimester; if you have a client who might be a "Deck House Boy," give me a call. I would love to talk to you about him.
You may find more information at our website www.deckhouseschool.org. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss a particular student, please feel free to call my Assistant Headmaster Dr. Melinda Browne or me at 207-882-7055.
Deck House Schoolis a small residential high school for 12 boys who had difficulties in more traditional academic settings. These are boys who, although they do not need a therapeutic setting, will benefit from being a member of a small and supportive learning community. Students and staff work together to create a community that builds positive relationships and encourages social, emotional, and academic growth. The Deck House School is NEASC accredited and SEVIS approved.
