The Deck House School is proud to announce that it has been approved for accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). This is a huge step for a school of our size and the culmination of three years of self study and evaluation.
The visiting committee said of their time at our school:
"A visit there is a reminder that as much as we try to complicate it, education is an essentially simple enterprise involving talented teachers and willing students in an environment of trust and support".
I think this statement captures the essence of what Ned Hall had in mind when he began this school thirty years ago.
For those who may not be familiar with The Deck House School, we are a small (12 student maximum) boarding school for boys located in mid-coast Maine. Students and staff work together to create a community that builds positive relationships and encourages social, emotional, and academic growth. We work with students age 15-19 who, although they do not need therapeutic treatment, will benefit from being a member of a small, structured, and supportive learning community. Our curriculum encompasses co-curricular activities and community services as well as college preparatory academics. Students also take on the responsibility of cooking and cleaning the house alongside our faculty and administrative staff.
The Deck House School follows a traditional September through June school year with a short summer trimester from the last week in July through the end of August. During this summer session, students will earn a trimester's credit in two academic classes.
With NEASC accreditation in place, The Deck House School will continue to pursue its mission of educating young men who have struggled in larger, more traditional, settings.
We offer rolling admissions for both the summer trimester and the coming school year and look forward to hearing from you regarding potential placements.
