Cove Creek Center consists of several programs designed to bring maturity, healing and spiritual awareness to young men 18 and over, as well as to their families. One of the programs, Cove Creek Farm, provides “a safe, structured, and chemical free living environment for young men desiring to continue their post high school education” or who are not yet ready to begin college.
The residents live in two newly renovated, modern apartments in a huge, historic old farmhouse. They are responsible for planning and preparing their meals using food supplied by Cove Creek. Each apartment is governed by guidelines, with weekly meetings to discuss problem areas, offer constructive feedback, and plan for the next week. High-speed Internet access, cable TV, and telephones are supplied in each apartment.
Goats, sheep, llamas, and horses reside in the pastures, and numerous wild critters abound. Riding trails, fishing, tubing and kayaking, camping, backpacking, basketball, volleyball, weight lifting, foosball, and pool in the rec room, are only some of the activities available to residents at Cove Creek Farm.
Each individual, with the help of staff and his family, works to develop a plan for himself. Parameters are established, taking into consideration the maturity, self control, goals, and ability of the young man who is desirous of developing his strengths, identifying and overcoming his weaknesses, to create a solid foundation of integrity, spirituality, and stability. Weekly individual and group counseling sessions are built into his schedule. If appropriate, he is able to attend weekly AA/NA meeting on the Farm, with the opportunity to interact with older and more experienced sponsors.
Each resident is required to work on the Farm, which helps reduce the monthly living expense while providing experience in scheduling, time management, interaction and cooperation. The resident helps to design his own natural consequences for inappropriate behavior and is allowed more freedom as he proves himself ready.
Other Christian oriented Cove Creek Center programs include: Point Man Ministries and Through Hebrew Eyes.
