Cougar Adventure Youth Academy (CAYA) is a new residential leadership program for boys and girls, ages 8-18 years old that are struggling with negative behaviors at home and in school, are disobedient, dishonest and/or disrespectful to authority figures. Children that exhibit lack of social skills, low self esteem, display feelings of entitlement or have negative peer relationships are also appropriate for enrollment to CAYA.
Owners and Executive Director of CAYA, Dwight and Kathy Andrus, have worked with troubled youth for years and have experience as group home parents. Other key team management members include Max Bertola, MS, Education Director, and Dr. Jonee Reber, LMFT, head therapist and Program Director and Jay Lane, CAYA's equine therapist. Accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, students participate in academics Monday through Friday with curriculum supplied by Park City Independent.
Each student attending CAYA is given an individualized Student Service Plan in order to monitor the student's progress through the program. Age appropriate contracted individual and group therapy assists students with learning appropriated communication and life skills, in addition to daily equine therapy. On site mentoring and nurturing is provided by live in couples who are designated to on campus homes in which students reside. Each day for these students start with daily chores, academics, PE, community service and supervised recreational activities. These activities include soccer, volleyball and basketball, swimming and horsemanship classes.
CAYA is located near Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park and Lake Powell all of which allows these young students to experience the great outdoors, learning team work and building relationships through camping, hiking and fishing.
