Walk for Thought

On Saturday, November 10th, CORE residents and staff participated in the 3rd Annual Walk for Thought in San Marcos at the Texas State University Stadium benefiting the Brain Injury Association of Texas. The event was a huge success generating a significant amount of the 2008 operating budget for the organization and creating a great deal of public policy advocacy through media events.

Throughout the month of November, CORE was featured on Public News Radio & in the Austin American Statesman to discuss the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Comprehensive Rehabilitative Services (CRS) funding. Eric Makowski, President of the Brain Injury Assocation of Texas, stated that through hard work and diligence by concerned brain injury resource advocates, we have seen an increase in the funding available to serve individuals with traumatic brain injuries. In turn this has greatly reduced the amount of time a cosumer is on the list awaiting rehabiliation services. Although Texans are so fortunate to have the CRS program as it is essential to rehabilitation, the need for State funding will continue to increase as Veteran's return from service and in general brain injuries continue to be on the rise.

CORE Health Care is a specialty residential treatment provider located in Austin and Dripping Springs, Texas, with four facilities providing post-acute brain injury rehabilitation; long-term care for people with brain injuries; long-term care for people with complex psychiatric disorders, autism or other special needs; and community re-entry services.
