The Christie School, established in 1953, has become Oregon’s oldest and largest residential treatment centers for emotionally disturbed children. It offers several different treatment programs to children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, with 80 children and youth currently living at the Christie School. The school’s treatment programs address such emotional and behavioral difficulties such as aggression, abuse, including self-abuse, suicidal/psychotic behavior, inappropriate sexual behavior, depression, unpredictability, runaway threat, and/or a history of fire- setting.

They offer specific programs including: an intensive residential treatment program for boys & girls ages 8 to 18; an “open” residential treatment program for girls ages 8 to 18; a group home for boys & girls ages 12 to 18; an assessment and evaluation program which provides immediate security to children ages 8 to 18 who are in crisis; and a community-based residential treatment program which combines residential and family/community-based services for boys & girls ages 8 to 18.

The length of stay at the school ranges from 9 to 12 months with treatment provided by a group of specialists including residential counselors, therapists, registered nurses, special education teachers, and a psychiatrist. The Christie School is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Council on Accreditation of Service for Families and Children.
