Child & Adolescent Center At Rogers Memorial Hospital

The Child & Adolescent Center at Rogers Memorial Hospital combines the intensity of a high staff to patient ratio with the treatment intensity of a child psychiatry inpatient unit, that is combined with activity-abased therapy. The comprehensive program is for boys and girls ages 12-17 who are dealing with ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, chemical dependency and/or family issues and is licensed as a psychiatric hospital by the State of Wisconsin and accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation for Health Care. Each adolescent has a treatment team that can include: child psychiatrist, psychologist, physician, registered psychiatric nurse, social worker, Master’s level clinical therapist, teacher, school liaison, and Master’s level experiential therapists. The program has on-site access to expert resources, and the Rogers Memorial-Oconomowoc medical staff are available for consultation about concerns with eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and drug and alcohol dependency.

Located on 50 wooded acres of lakefront property, it is equipped with two gymnasiums, a weight room, indoor climbing wall, ropes and challenge course, with canoeing, biking, and camping available. The Center is managed by a certified recreational therapist with 20 years experience in adventure-based learning in psychiatric and residential settings and provides 30 to 45 treatment days with longer treatment options available. Regular psychotherapy sessions with a child psychiatrist are provided after a comprehensive assessment is completed and the development of an individualized treatment plan is established.

Peter Lake, M/D., the Medical Director of Child & Adolescent Services at RMH, described the Child & Adolescent Center as “a natural extension of our other child and adolescent services, which include inpatient, day treatment and our Challenge Camp for children with ADHD. The Child and Adolescent Center treatment program has a strong emphasis on psychiatric education and therapy, as well as developing insight to improve self-esteem and deal with problems in behavior, socialization and family relationships.”
