Congratulations to our Cherokee Creek Boys School Founder, Beth Black, who has continued her commitment to creating healthy learning environments for boys by becoming a Certified Trainer for the Gurian Institute
(www.gurianinstitute.com). Michel Gurian is the bestselling author of twenty five books including Boys and Girls Learn Differently, A Fine Young Man and The Wonder of Boys. He is the co-founder of the Gurian Institute, which conducts field research, launches pilot programs and trains professionals.
Beth is passionate about educating parents and educators about the different needs of boys both in the classroom and in the culture at large. It has been a vision from the founding of CCBS that the school be a resource and place of educations and training for all families...not only those with a son enrolled at Cherokee Creek. We look forward to Beth training our staff and families as we reach toward becoming recognized as a Gurian Model School.
A statement from Beth in her own words:
"Life is an amazing journey! I always thought I would be a teacher and went to college to study elementary education. But, I got off track somewhere and "went corporate" and became an adult educator with a career as corporate trainer and seminar designer for Walt Disney World, owner of a marketing consulting firm, founder of a seminar company focused on women's issues and director of a non-profit to fight drug abuse in youth.
Although each of these jobs gave me great insight and new skills, I humbly share that it was the challenge and anguish of raising a troubled son that has been my greatest education. After years of searching, working with educators and mental health professionals, my son found success at a therapeutic boarding school. And, the skills I acquired through this arduous journey led me back to my early passion for working with children...and the founding of Cherokee Creek Boys School, a therapeutic boarding school for struggling middle school boys. We embrace the Gurian model of education for our boys and have great success with our single gender program.
I love middle school boys and I especially love their parents. Raising and educating children in our current culture is difficult, at best. I look forward to speaking with parents, community leaders and educators about the many hopeful messages offered by Michael Gurian and the Gurian Institute."
Beth is also available to speak to programs, organizations and families about single-gender education and the special needs of boys.
Cherokee Creek Boys School is a therapeutic boarding school for middle-school boys, ages 11-15, located in Upstate South Carolina. Our mission is to, "Challenge boys and their families to discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them." We believe in the healing power of nature, that engaging the whole family is essential to the therapeutic process and in creating a learning and living environment where the gifts of boys are celebrated.
