Please join us in welcoming Debbie Wallace to Cherokee Creek and her new position as Family Center Coordinator.
Debbie replaces Beth Venable who left recently to assume a new role at Trails Carolina. She will be overseeing our Family Center activities including Family Seminars, Family Treks, Women's Retreats, Father/Son events as well as producing our communication pieces and helping with the admissions process on campus.
With a degree in Communications from University of Tennessee, Debbie brings a wealth of experience to Cherokee Creek. In her most recent role in the nonprofit sector, she worked in our local community to promote Search Institute's research-based "40 Developmental Assets" -- a common set of developmental building blocks critical to the well-being of all youth. This work is the foundation of the Positive Youth Development movement, America's Promise Alliance, the nation's largest partnership dedicated to ensuring that young people have access to fundamental resources...and the work we do at Cherokee Creek.
Using her communications skills to collaborate with other nonprofits, businesses, and educators, she was successful in garnering support for an annual community youth forum that empowered adults and youth to build assets in their neighborhoods and schools. While in nonprofit, she learned to be a "jack-of-all-trades", frequently writing her own press releases, recording her own radio spots, coordinating volunteers, planning events, and writing grants.
Debbie's background also includes an eclectic mix of newspaper advertising as well as promotional products sales to clients including Coca-Cola. While in sales, she was honored to receive industry awards for creativity and peer awards for team spirit. These skills will prove useful as we continue to promote Cherokee Creek beyond the walls of our own community.
In college, Debbie was active in Vol Corps, a selective student group that gave tours to prospective students and their families. She is looking forward to hosting upcoming guest and family tours at CCBS as well.
Debbie lives in Seneca, SC with her husband, two children, and Labrador retriever. She loves HGTV and is a hopeless "do-it-yourselfer". Between home improvement projects she enjoys hiking, camping, and playing outdoors with her family. We are excited to welcome Debbie to CCBS!
Be on the look out for a special message from Debbie! She will be contacting you with an invitation to participate in our November Family Seminar where we will have New York Times bestselling author Michael Gurian as a guest speaker!
Sincerely,
David LePere
