CALO, a residential treatment center for adopted teens, is pleased to announced their New Clinical Director, Shandra Carter and the new Academic Director, Robert Burroughs, PhD.

Shandra Carter, MSW, LSCW has been appointed as Clinical Director of CALO.

While she is a Montana native, Shandra developed academically and professionally in Washington State. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle with a double major in Psychology and Law, Societies and Justice. She then went on to earn a Master's in Social Work degree from Eastern Washington University.

Her diverse clinical experience includes working in the fields of crisis intervention, domestic violence, sexual trauma, inpatient psychiatry, juvenile residential treatment and adult corrections.

Shandra has been incredibly fortunate to have had talented leaders and mentors to guide her in developing a well rounded clinical skill set, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy, all of which provides a back drop for the specialized services of Attachment-Focused Treatment offered at CALO. The growth and development of the students, as well as the clinical team at CALO are sources of great passion for her.

Shandra's commitment to her role in leadership and her love of her energetic family keep her life fulfilled and joyful. She and her husband, Jason, are raising a 5-year-old daughter alongside 3 very large dogs and 2 birds in the Lake of Ozark area. We are excited about the expertise and experience Shandra brings to CALO!

Robert Burroughs, Ph.D. is the new Academic Director at CALO.

Bob has spent most of his life as a teacher and educator. Most recently, he taught teachers at University of Cincinnati for 15 years in the Teacher Education Division. Previously, he taught high school English in California and Connecticut, and was an executive with Scholastic, Inc., the educational publisher in New York City.

Effective July 15th Bob returned to those teaching roots as the Academic Director at CALO. CALO focuses on attachment and trauma issues in teens, primarily those who are adopted. Bob own sons were adopted from Colombia, so he has a personal affinity for programs that deal with attachment issues. Further, he has made presentations on the subject at professional meetings.

As the Academic Director, he will be leading CALO's transition from an academic curriculum that has been primarily based on-line to a classroom-based model. Because much of his academic research was focused on curricular issues, he is well prepared to help with this transition.

We are excited to have Bob as part of our team!!

Change Academy Lake Ozark (CALO) provides specialized therapy for teens struggling with trauma, attachment disorder, or mood regulation issues.
