The Knowledge Center at Chaddock along with the Chaddock Trauma Initiative will be presenting a national SPRACS Training at the Quincy Holiday Inn on Tuesday, December 8th and 9th, 2009.

SPARCS, which stands for Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress, is an evidence-informed therapy intervention recommended by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The SPARCS program includes a 16 session treatment guide that was specifically created for teens who have been traumatized, often repeatedly and who continue to live with high levels of stress. As a strength-based approach, SPARCS was designed to help adolescents find the wisdom in their responses, support skills they already possess, and foster new ways of coping. Through education, validation, and connection, SPARCS therapists strive to provide group members with the freedom to address problems that are important to them and create opportunities for change.

Participants will travel to Quincy from all across the nation to participate in the training.

Trainers for the sessions will be:

Angel Knoverek, MS, LCPC, Director of the Chaddock Trauma Initiative
Thomas Donovan, MA, LCPC, Associate Director of the Chaddock Trauma Initiative
Dr. Mandy Habib: Co-Developer of SPARCS and Co-Chair to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network¹s Complex Trauma Workgroup.

About The Chaddock Trauma Initiative:
The Chaddock Trauma Initiative is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The Chaddock Trauma Initiative is a member of and works corroboratively with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network to study the most effective treatments for trauma-impacted children. This ongoing research strengthens the treatment that is available both nationally and world-wide.
