Hoping to provide a lower cost alternative to wilderness placement for a struggling teen, Cedar Ridge Academy has developed a 90-day Academic Bridge Program that will provide structure and supervision, a therapeutic and academic assessment, and a chance to stay caught up in school, make up lost credits, or earn credits ahead. Providing a safe, supervised environment free from negative peer influences and distractions creates an ideal milieu for learning and growth.
The idea is to span a block of time approximately equivalent to a summer or semester where a student can continue school and also work on issues that may have interfered with school performance at home. Licensed therapists will conduct a thorough behavioral and emotional assessment while our teachers and guidance counselor support the student academically. We use a blended learning model that combines online coursework with direct instruction and tutorial support from qualified teachers, giving us a very flexible school program. Students who have lost credits can potentially catch up, and motivated students can potentially get ahead, giving them the option of early graduation and going on to college sooner.
Students can enroll at any time. At the end of the 90 days, parents will have a more thorough understanding of their child's challenges, and the student will not have lost any school time. This will help parents make a more informed decision about what to do next. Parents who wish their student to stay longer may certainly elect to do so.
