Cedar Ridge Academy student Nisty Tharp was featured as an artist in an art show at a local coffee shop in Roosevelt, Utah, along with the boarding school's art instructor and guidance counselor, Jim Munford. The owner of Roots Café in Roosevelt has never featured a student's art before seeing Nisty's work.
Along with the honor of being the first and only student invited to host her art at the coffee shop, Nisty sold one art piece during the open house in December. Nisty graduates from Cedar Ridge Academy on January 31, 2011, almost a semester earlier than her graduating class at home.
Jim Munford, Cedar Ridge Academy's art teacher and guidance counselor, initially proposed that Nisty's work be displayed along with his at the coffee shop. The café' owner was skeptical until Jim showed her an example of Nisty's work. Jim received a couple of commissions for art pieces during that open house as well.
Michael Caudle, English teacher and art club coach, had his work on display at Roots Café in November. Mike has a long history with Cedar Ridge Academy during which he has developed student artists and helped several of them complete portfolios for entrance to art institutions in California, Oregon, and Illinois.
Cedar Ridge Academy believes in cultivating student talents, and our teachers and guidance department assist our graduates with moving on to college, including art schools.
