Catherine Freer Wilderness Therapy Programs' Drug and Alcohol Residential Treatment license has been renewed by the State of Oregon.
The State's Addiction and Mental Health Division has extended the adolescent treatment program's license through January 2013. The company is also licensed as a Mental Health Treatment Provider by the Oregon Office of Mental Health Services and as an Outdoor Youth Treatment Program. In addition, they are accredited by the Joint Commission of Accredited Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).
"We take immense pride in our licensures and JCAHO accreditation. We feel it is essential to continually push the bar when it comes to providing the best adolescent treatment available," explained Program Director Rob Koning.
Catherine Freer Wilderness Therapy Programs serves adolescents aged 13 through 18 that are struggling with behavioral and/and mental health issues. Many of these teenagers are also using drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms. Some are just experimenting and others are starting to show signs of addiction. Other of the program's participants are not abusing substances and are instead turning to the computer and have issues with internet addiction. The common thread is that these teens are beyond parental control, rebellious, and are bright but are exhibiting poor academic achievement.
At the wilderness therapy program, troubled teens take part in a backpacking and adventure expedition that combines outdoor living, physical activity and extensive psychotherapy. A master's level therapist with substance abuse counseling experience is a member of the staff team that resides in the field with the adolescents. Opportunities for "in the moment" therapy and individual and group therapy are abundant. Outcome research indicates that 83 percent of teens report they are "doing better" after their wilderness therapy experience.
The employee owned and operated company was founded in 1988 and serves approximately 300 adolescents per year. For admissions information, please call 800-390-3983 .
