Cathedral Home For Children

Cathedral Home for Children (CHC) is a residential/educational treatment facility that provides a broad range of services for boys and girls who are 11 to 18 years of age. The have been dedicated to the care and welfare of children since 1910. Beginning as a refuge for homeless and dependent children, over the years they expanded to serve more troubled and traumatized youth.

Their campus consists of five cottages, including one deaf/hard of hearing cottage. They currently provide residential treatment services for up to fifty-four residents whose educational, emotional, and behavior problems require special services outside their own homes, schools, and communities.

The services offered at CHC include the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Program, the Mae Olson Education Center, various therapeutic groups, a wilderness program, work training, spiritual and recreational Programs, as well as an Outreach Program and a Foster Grandparent Program. They also have access to the Laramie Youth Crisis Center during a period of conflict. CHC is accredited by JCAHO.

The daily schedule is structured and well planned, yet allows for flexibility to address the many different individual needs of adolescents. The education program is housed in the on-campus school. The “strong family-style living environment allows a variety of personalized treatment programs, including a chemical dependency group, a grief and loss group, a sex offender’s group, and a sexual abuse or survivor’s group. The program for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, and children who are troubled and traumatized is “recognized a premiere program of its kind in the country.”
