About Cognitive Self Change

The staff and faculty of Bridges Academy in Bend, Oregon, recently participated in a day of professional development focusing on Cognitive Self Change. CSC is a method of self-change enabling offenders to learn about and practice how to break patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that lead to criminal behaviors.

Jonna Clayton, MA, is an Advanced Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor and Clinical Supervisor for Community Services Counseling in Boise, Idaho, where she teaches Cognitive Self Change and has been impressed with the process and the amazing results the clients experience with CSC. She graciously agreed to work with our staff and conduct a CSC group with our students, using the CSC Idaho model from the Idaho Department of Correction.

This was a great day of sharing and learning that change is possible. Our students experienced moments of personal insight and awareness as to how their thoughts create their reality. This workshop generated a lot of enthusiasm, and all who participated in this workshop see Cognitive Self Change as a powerful tool to personal growth. We are grateful to the parole and probation folks of Idaho and to Jonna Clayton who made this possible.
