Bridges Academy in Bend, OR, recently began a new Music Appreciation course. Teachers Jeff Wenger and Darlene Gertsch have created the syllabus and will be co-teaching this course which is designed to be a community collaboration of people who are passionate about music and are willing to share their interests, expertise and talents.

The year-long course has been outlined within an historical perspective and will highlight the development of American music, World/International music, and Alternative/Pop music and will be augmented with music, video and student research and presentation. Quite appropriately, Music Appreciation will fulfill the Humanities requirement for Oregon high school graduation, and the students at Bridges Academy are eager to get started.

Bridges Academy is an emotional growth boarding school dedicated to reuniting troubled teens with their families by empowering them through self-discovery and education and helping them overcome personal, academic and family challenges.
