Breakwater Expeditions is a new wilderness adventure for families, offered to schools and programs, communities and individuals, offering unforgettable wilderness experiences and workshops. These adventure expeditions are designed to reunite families and build a sense of community, while focusing on play and working on individual personal growth.
John Winton and Lars Hall are co-founders of this new enterprise, having met years ago while working at a private, wilderness therapy program for struggling teens. John has over 15 years experience working with adults and teens and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder, Swift Water Rescuer, an ACA Sea Kayak Instructor, Lead Climbing Instructor, Professional Ski Instructor of America with an Avalanche Level 1 certificate in addition to being an American Red Cross Lifeguard. Lars also is certified as a Wilderness First Responder and is certified in Swift Water Rescue, RCABC Canoe Tripping Instructor, and Professional Ski Instructors of America with an Avalanche Level 1 certificate and Rope Rescue 1 certificate. John received his degree in Outdoor Recreation from Radford University and is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School Semester in Alaska. Lars received his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Gettysburg College and graduated from the National Outdoor Leadership Semester in the Colorado Rockies. Breakwater Expeditions therapists include Lawrence Alford, PhD, LCPC, who received his PhD from the University of Utah in Counseling Psychology, and in addition, is licensed in Idaho and Montana as a Certified Mediator; and Laura Adams, MA, LPC and ACADC, who received her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University.
By offering four programs for Individual Families, Therapeutic Schools and Programs, Traditional Schools and Programs and Community Expeditions, Breakwater Expeditions can create individual experiences for various groups with an emphasis on therapeutic workshops, student expeditions, multi family expeditions and assisting in creating a Family Wellness Plan. Participants in these programs will gain real life learning experiences and students, families and individuals will learn the art of teamwork, leadership skills building and gain quality reconnecting time.
Adventure courses range from sea kayaks in Alaska, Washington's San Juan Islands, the Bahamas or Lake Powell, AZ; canoeing in Montana, whitewater rafting in Idaho or even dog sledding in Colorado.
