Boulder Creek Academy welcomes Tiwi Nicks, M.Ed., to the role of Director of Admissions.

Nicks comes to Boulder Creek Academy from the public-school sector where she worked for a school district meeting the needs of diverse learners with autism, anxiety, ADHD, OCD and more. She led a team that helped facilitate the proper placement and/or accommodations and interventions for students. She served on academic and administrative committees focusing on district and state special education department matters and implementation.

Her interest in therapeutic programs has been developing for a great deal of time. Nicks explained, “My work in a traditional school environment has driven my keen interest in helping families faced with having a child that doesn’t fit in a specific societal box.”

Nicks learned about the therapeutic schools and program field five years ago. Since that time she has kept informed by staying up to date with the educational consultant community and NATSAP. She has attended an IECA conference to obtain pertinent information related to the industry.

Nicks had the opportunity to develop a relationship with Judge Mason, a well-known educational consultant in Arizona, who shed incredible insight on the therapeutic school industry and its nuances. This relationship inspired Nicks and set her on the path to wanting to positively impact young people in the most effective way possible.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Tiwi leading Admissions at Boulder Creek,” explained Executive Director Lisa Hester. “She has wanted to make the leap into the field of therapeutic schools and programs and we feel incredibly fortunate to offer her that opportunity. She is passionate about education and committed to helping students find the right path. Plus she has an impressive work history that aligns perfectly with the work we do on behalf of our students. When you meet her in person and experience her positive attitude, warmth, compassion and innate intelligence you’ll immediately understand why we’ve added her to our team.”

Nicks holds a master’s degree in Education from Arizona State University.
