Boulder Creek Academy announces the creation of new hybrid-programming, which allows student to benefit from the therapeutic and academic services for which the school is renowned plus new single gender opportunities.

"There is tremendous value in understanding oneself as a social being. It is also important to recognize that learning takes place in different ways for different genders. With that in mind we have been hard at work creating gender specific programming allowing for consideration to be made for both groups of students. The students' enthusiasm for the new gender-specific programming has been tremendous," explained Boulder Creek Academy School Director Lisa Hester.

The purpose of developing a "hybrid co-ed" program is to allow for boys and girls to experience school and portions of their social life together and also have purposeful breaks and programming for each same-sex group of students. This new programming features:

  • Male and female students purposefully separated for extended periods of time, allowing for a social break from either group having to perform or be "on" socially.

  • The creation of a new and separate geographic location for the girl's dorms.

  • Weekend and evening programming that focuses on single gender activities.

  • Single gender social skills development opportunities supported by conflict resolution and advocacy.

  • Opportunities to identify how as a group they can work together to form strong bonds and support networks.

Boulder Creek Academy has spent two-decades focused on meeting the needs of adolescents ages 13 to 18 that are struggling with social cognitive deficits, communication deficiencies, executive function issues, non-verbal learning disorders, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. The therapeutic boarding school features a state-approved special education program and students benefit from a curriculum that integrates academic and therapeutic learning with adventure activities, leadership, and service learning opportunities. Moreover, students receive fundamental skill building services including phonemic awareness development, passage comprehension, operational and problem solving, and more. The campus is situated on 180-acres at the base of the Cabinet Mountains in northern Idaho. Students are accepted for enrollment year-round.

Boulder Creek Academy is a therapeutic boarding school for students age 13 to 18 struggling with social cognitive deficits, communication deficiencies, executive function issues, non-verbal learning disorders, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
