Blueprint Education, a nonprofit educational organization, has partnered with Explorations to offer an accredited option to their existing Big Sky Summer Adventures program for teens.
This Trout Creek, Montana-based program focuses on lifetime adventure experiences as the foundation of their annual summer offerings from June through August.
Instructors teach the necessary skills and observe students in the areas of hiking, rafting, canoeing, and bicycling. Students learn the implementation of protective gear, and interaction with their surrounding environment. Students maintain an activity log of their daily physical activity including location, time of day, duration, and activity reflection. This course provides its students with the basic instruction to safely and confidently engage in lifetime sports long after completion of the course. Upon their return back home and to school, students are able to incorporate these critical thinking and decision-making skills.
"Working with Blueprint to develop quality curriculum for our students has been extremely satisfying," states Emily Thelen, CTRS and Field Instructor at Explorations. "I experienced a high level of professionalism paired with genuine human care and attention to create a specialized curriculum for our program. They were able to answer questions and offer feedback in a timely and thorough manner. Being able to earn school credit adds a whole new dimension to the growth that naturally occurs in the field. Blueprint Education has allowed the Explorations summer to stay on top of the market to meet the needs of the teenagers we serve."
"Through this innovative partnership, students will be eligible to earn up to 1.0 credit of PE in Lifetime Adventure sports during their participation at Explorations," says Jennifer Blackstone, Assistant Superintendent of Blueprint Education. Explorations is able to preserve their successful program while adding value through an established curriculum piece aligned to Montana state standards. We look forward to continued collaboration with Explorations to provide more diverse curriculum options in both their residential life skills offering as well as their summer courses."
