At the recent IECA conference in San Diego it was announced that Baker Valley Treatment Center (BVTC) would open early in 2014. A sister program to Mountain Valley Treatment Center and a member of the non-profit Family Support Collaborative, Baker Valley is designed to serve adolescent males, 15-18 years of age who are suffering from internalizing disorders such as mood, anxiety and depression coupled with substance abuse. As of January 6th we are accepting referrals for immediate placement and hosting tours for referring professionals and program representatives.
Renovations of the late 1800's Victorian mansion located about 20 minutes north of Plymouth, NH are complete. A remodeled kitchen, upgrades to the physical plant and new furniture purchases have been finalized. Construction of an indoor climbing wall and wood working shop has begun in an adjacent barn on the 5-acre property. Staff training in topics such as serving adolescents with co-occurring disorders, maintaining healthy boundaries, CBT, DBT, emergency procedures and HIPAA have been conducted.
The BVTC model is designed on a comprehensive weekly schedule for up to 12 boys over a 60-90 day time frame. Each week is comprised of engaging modules including academics, adventure programming, stewardship (forest to home, farm to table), fitness and craftsmanship. Evidenced-based clinical programming includes individual therapy three times per week and a schedule of daily group therapy such as interpersonal effectiveness, CBT, recovery, process groups, emotional regulation, life skills and mindfulness. Exposure therapy experiences are conducted three times per week in 5-hour blocks and tailored to the individual resident's anxiety and triggers.
