Founded in 2003, Avalon Hills is a residential eating disorder treatment center for adolescent girls and adult women, who are struggling with bulimia, anorexia and binge eating disorders. Located on 11 acres of rolling hills, Avalon Hills' center for girls has the ability to work with 12 girls in residence.
Gary L. Roberts is the founder and COO of Avalon Hills and specializes in wilderness counseling, therapeutic experiential groups and activities and risk management. Dr. Benita Quakenbush-Roberts, PhD, is the CEO and also one of the original founders of Avalon Hills, along with her husband Gary.
Avalon Hills uses both scientific and holistic methods, with the belief that positive change comes from the three cornerstones of their program: new information, new insights and new experiences. Clients participate in individual, group and family therapies; daily health assessments, therapeutic outdoor experiences and challenges such as skiing, canoeing and hiking , equine and animal assisted therapies and "fitness for fun", with courses in yoga, low impact aerobics, Tai chi and self defense courses.
