When Bill Grant, Assistant Head of School, first arrived at Auldern Academy in 2006, he made a promise to the girls that he would help them fulfill their dreams of attending a high school dance. Bill came through on this promise on February 28, when Stone Mountain School brought their boys to Auldern for the first of what is hoped to be many school dances and activities.
The night was filled with excitement as the boys from Stone Mountain School braved the rain to enter the dance. Auldern girls and Student Life Counselors had spent the day transforming the dining hall into a tropical paradise for a "Night in Rio." The DJ revved up the music and students joined together in the "Cha cha slide". From that point, the dancing didn't stop until the prescribed time. All students seemed to truly enjoy themselves at the event.
The Auldern girls were pleasantly surprised the boys could "be this courteous and nice", which is a tremendous compliment to the Stone Mountain staff and program. We were pleased to be able to give kids who attend a therapeutic school, a little bit of what they might have had in other schools. It is our hope to be able to offer more opportunities for our girls to interact with young men in an appropriate setting.
We thank the Stone Mountain staff for bringing their boys such a long way and helping to chaperone the dance.
